Athletes run well at Rock ‘N’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon

Four athletes were at the highly competitive Rock ‘N’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon on Sunday, with two earning new personal bests at the distance. Shadrack Biwott placed 17th in 1:03:56, while Tyler McCandless was not far behind in 24th in 1:04:59 (PR). Jacques Sallberg, who struggled with Achilles pain, was 47th in 1:07:35. Katarina Janoskiva earned a new personal best of 1:15:45, placing 22nd in the women’s race. Katarina and Tyler will be racing the Chicago Marathon next month, while Shadrack is preparing for the New York Marathon in November.

Jeff and Shadrack run fast on both coasts

On a Saturday in New York City, Shadrack Biwott placed tenth overall at the UAE Healthy Kidney 10k, running 28:57 on the rolling Central Park course. A day later, Jeff placed 11th overall and third American at the ING Bay to Breakers 12k run in San Francisco, California.

Empire Athletics athletes run strong in NYC

On March 21st, three Empire Athletics athletes – Shadrack Biwott, Sally Meyerhoff, and Trent Briney – all competed in the new spring edition of the NYC Half Marathon. Shadrack continued his dominance on the roads with 1:01:52, good for fifth place overall. In 9th place at the 10k mark, Shadrack moved up steadily over the second half of the race and cruised to the finish with yet another sub 1:02 half marathon in a span of three weeks. Sally Meyerhoff ran her second fastest half marathon time ever with a 1:13:58 as she ran to a 9th place finish overall in the women’s division. Trent Briney finished 18th with a time of 1:06:44.

Shadrack Biwott 3rd at Rock ‘N’ Roll Mardi Gras 1/2 Marathon

Shadrack Biwott, in only his second attempt at the distance, ran side-by-side with two of the most heralded long distance runners, Martin Lel and Sammy Wanjiru, as he finished third in a stunning 1:01:40 at the Rock ‘N’ Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon. Lel, a three-time winner of the London Marathon, won the race in 1:01:07 while Sammy Wanjiru, the 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist in the marathon finished only seven seconds ahead of Shadrack in 1:01:33.

Shadrack Biwott wins Bermuda Triangle Challenge

In a span of three days, Shadrack won the mile, 10k, and half marathon races held in Bermuda. On Friday night, he ran a 4:11 road mile, followed by a 29:34 10k the next morning, capped by a 1:06:14 hilly half marathon on the final day of racing. Shadrack will continue to do winter road races before the spring track season begins.

Shadrack Biwott Joins Empire Athletics

Shadrack Biwott is a 2009 University of Oregon grad, where he ran Personal Bests of 7:55 (3k), 13:36 (5k), 28:28 (10k). While at Oregon, he was a four-time NCAA All-American in Cross Country and Track and was the Individual 2007 Pac-10 Cross Country Champion. Shadrack continues to live in Eugene, Oregon and runs for the Nike sponsored Oregon Track Club.
